NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack women's ice hockey looks to build on the first win of the season with a home-and-home against the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Merrimack returns to the ice after splitting a weekend series against Holy Cross, earning a 3-2 win on Saturday for the first victory of the season. Sophomore goaltender Emma Gorski took her back-to-back starts and ran with them, turning aside 67 games across two games including 44 saves in the win. Her efforts earned her Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Goals came across the board for the Warriors, with four players scoring goals and seven getting assists over the series. Captain Megan Fergusson had a goal in each game, with Sam Lessick getting a goal and an assist and Mack Emery getting two assists on Friday for a team-leading two points.

Quick Hits:
• Also scoring were Gabby Jones and Katie Kaufman on Saturday, as Kaufman and Courtney Maud finished the weekend leading the Warriors with eight shots on goal apiece.
• Three rookies also earned their first collegiate points against Holy Cross as Grace Karunakar, Bree Bergeron and Ally Qualley all earning assists.
• Assistant captain Dominika Laskova remains with the Czech national team in their final national team camp for the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship Tournament.
• The Warriors hold a 5-9-2 overall record against UConn, winning their last contest against the Huskies on Feb. 15, 2020 in Storrs.

A Look at the Huskies:
UConn has competed in five games thus far in the year, coming into the series with a 4-1 win against Boston University on Dec. 11. Senior forward Natalie Snodgrass was named Hockey East Player of the Week after a two-assist game against BU and the team's first game of the year. UConn stumbled to open the year, with a loss and tie against Providence before falling to Boston College on December 4-5. In goal, UConn has split time between junior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle, who holds an 0-2-0 record and first year Tia Chan, with a 1-1-1 overall mark.
