How It Happened
- Canisius took an early two-goal lead in the first five minutes of play. Senior Ally DaCosta got the Warriors on the board after getting a pass from Calkins. The Griffins answered back with a goal two minutes later to make the score 3-1. Mahanna scored her first goal of the game to put the Warriors down one. Canisius scored again, which put them up two. Merrimack responded, rattling off three unanswered goals including one by freshman Sophie Scearbo and two by Darrell that gave the Warriors a singular goal advantage. The Griffins scored late in the first half to tie the game up heading into halftime.
- To open up the second half, Calkins went on her tear of three goals in six minutes that gave Merrimack a 9-5 lead. Two of the goals were assisted by DaCosta and one was assisted by sophomore Olivia Valdes. Mahanna added her second goal of the game giving the Warriors a 9-5 lead with 16 minutes remaining in the contest. Canisius then netted four straight unanswered goals to tie the score at nine with just over two minutes left to play. With 19 seconds left in regulation, Dzialo found the back of the net to give the Warriors their first Division I victory.
