NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. –  The Merrimack College men's basketball team defeated Central Connecticut State University, 69-58, on Thursday night at Hammel Court to win the 2020 Northeast Conference Regular Season Championship. The Warriors picked up their 20th win of the season, improving their league-leading record to 14-4 on the season.

The Warriors won the championship after being selected to finish last in the 2019-20 NEC Preseason Poll. Merrimack becomes the second team ever to win a conference championship in its first year of Division I reclassification; the Warriors will become the first program ever to win an outright crown if Saint Francis University loses on Saturday.

Outside of the opening minutes, Merrimack led coast-to-coast during Thursday's championship-winning evening. Senior Juvaris Hayes led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals while junior Devin Jensen filled up the stat sheet with 18 points on five 3-pointers. Senior Jaleel Lord and freshman Jordan Minor added 11 points apiece.

Merrimack will now await its postseason destination, which will likely see the Warriors play in one of the multiple postseason tournaments available for Division I basketball programs.
