Men’s Tennis Moves Past Rochester, 6-1

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico –  The Merrimack College men's tennis team picked up its sixth win of the season on Wednesday when the Warriors dispatched the University of Rochester, 6-1, down in Humacao, Puerto Rico. The Warriors swept all three doubles matches and recorded wins in five of six singles flights to emerge victorious.

  • The Warriors won first and second doubles by 6-4 margins as Merrimack's top duo of seniors Denis Davydov and Alex Fedorov and their second pairing of sophomores Jonathan Garcia and Alec Mackay Rodriguez recorded wins
  • Sophomore Andre Singer and senior Paul Weidinger impressed the most in the three doubles matches, defeating Rochester's third pairing by four games, 6-2
  • All five of the team's single wins came in straight sets. Fedorov won his first set in shutout fashion before clinching fourth singles with a 6-1 second-set victory to post the most impressive victory of the day. Davydov handled Rochester's top option of the day in check, claiming a pair of 6-2 set victories at the top flight. Sophomore Conrad Koch added a win at the third flight, 6-3 and 6-3
  • Merrimack took the bottom two rungs of the singles ladder, as well. Freshman Pedro de Godoy Mancini need just two sets (6-4, 6-4) to best his foe at fifth singles while Mackay Rodriguez started his match with a 6-2 win before a clinching 6-3 triumph at No. 6
