CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Luck was not on the Merrimack College men's hockey team's side Saturday night at Conte Forum, as myriad golden chances just missed in a 2-1 loss to #3/3 Boston College.

Merrimack hit multiple posts and was denied on other point blank chances, as they narrowly missed on an upset bid.

The Basics
Score: #3/3 Boston College 2, Merrimack 1
Records: Merrimack (1-6-0, 1-6-0 HEA) | Boston College (7-2-0, 7-2-0 HEA)
Game Duration: 2:20

How It Happened
  • The hosts got off to a quick start when Eamon Powell put one past Warrior netminder Zachary Borgiel 1:30 into the contest.
  • After Boston College continued with momentum after its early tally, the Warriors started to turn the tides in the opening stanza. Merrimack ended up with a 10-9 edge in shots on goal including four from Alex Jefferies, who flew around the rink.
  • Merrimack established its game in the second period, but an unfortunate bounce led to Danny Weight's tally for the Eagles just over eight minutes in. The Warriors rang two straight pipes not long after off the sticks of Ben Brar and Jefferies for their best chances of the night up to that point. The visitors outshot BC again in the second frame, this time by a 7-6 mark.
  • After Brar was tripped up close to the net just over a minute into the third, the Warriors were off to the power play and were able to jam one home. Jefferies slid a pass to Brar goal line extended to the left. Brar opened up and stuffed a shot on net that was stopped, but the rebound slipped free to the far post. Zach Vinnell charged in from the left faceoff dot and wedged it into the back of the net to cut the deficit in half.
  • Midway through the third, Borgiel was charged into by Trevor Kuntar, which warranted a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. Merrimack pushed nearly 10 shots on goal during the chance, but couldn't find the equalizer.
  • The Warriors had a few more opportunities with under a minute to play, but narrowly could not tie it up.
Notes & Numbers
  • The line of Brar, Jefferies and Logan Drevitch combined for 22 shots on goal, which was more than the entire Eagles team was able to muster. Brar had a game-high nine, while Jefferies fired eight.
  • Merrimack ended the night with a 35-21 edge in shots on goal, which included an 18-6 advantage in the final frame.
  • Borgiel returned to the game after the collision in the third period and finished with 19 saves.
  • Jefferies' assist gave him the team lead in scoring with six points through his first seven collegiate games.
  • Both of Vinnell's goals have now come on the man advantage.
  • Merrimack's penalty kill has now killed off 14 consecutive chances.
  • Patrick Kramer was nearly unbeaten at the faceoff dot, as he won 13 of 16 draws.
