Men's Hockey to Tangle with #3/3 Boston College in Weekend Series
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team is set to go after another schedule adjustment and takes on #3/3 Boston College this weekend in a home-and-home set.
Saturday's game at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill can be viewed regionally on NESN.
Five Things To Know
- Filip Forsmark has kicked off the rust and then some in his return to game action. The sophomore went 20 months without playing in a competitive game, but has tallied five points in his first six contests, including a three-point weekend against Northeastern that included his first collegiate goal.
- Following a move to center for the 2020-21 season, Logan Drevitch has taken a big step forward. He netted his first goal of the season Sunday against Northeastern and has chipped in with four assists for five points. He also holds the team lead in plus/minus with a +2 rating.
- The Warriors have been a heavily balanced scoring team so far. After big weekends from Forsmark and Chase Gresock against Northeastern, five different skaters are tied for the team scoring lead with five points. Drevitch, Patrick Holway and Alex Jefferies have also matched the pace. Jefferies also holds the edge in goal scoring after he's lit the lamp three times in his first half dozen collegiate games.
- The Warriors have suddenly assembled one of the toughest schedules in the nation in their opening eight games. After their deck has been reshuffled myriad times, Merrimack takes on the third nationally ranked Eagles this weekend, which means all eight games so far have come against nationally ranked foes.
- Boston College earned a split last weekend against New Hampshire, but still hold a 6-2-0 mark. Matt Boldy has the team lead in scoring (3-7--10), but last season's leader, Alex Newhook, is back from World Junior duties. Spencer Knight is also back from Edmonton and is 5-0-0 in the cage this season with a .950 save percentage and 1.60 goals against average.
