NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.– The Merrimack women's ice hockey team's two goal third period wasn't enough to complete the road comeback against the UConn Huskies, as the Warriors fell 5-3 in the road test on Sunday.

How It Happened
- UConn jumped on the board five minutes into the contest for the early lead. Merrimack responded midway through the first. Freshman defender Hayley Chang held the puck in along the boards at the hash marks, pivoting to knock a pass to Dominika Laskova cutting through the faceoff circle. Laskova redirected the puck to an open Allison Reeb at the top of the goal mouth for her first goal of the year.
- The Huskies scored two more in the second period, the first coming at 2:49 before tacking on their second at 18:47 of the period. The hosts tacked on their fourth of the night early in the third period to pad the lead.
- Merrimack outshot UConn 24 to 12 through the second and third period, with the offense breaking through to kickstart the rally late in the third. With a puck dumped down deep in the Huskies zone, Gabby Jones held the puck in down low and sent it over to Katie Kaufman cutting through the nearside faceoff circle. Kaufman's initial shot was saved, but the junior captured the rebound to put the second goal for the Warriors on the board.
- Pushing with momentum, Merrimack added a third with 90 seconds to go in the game. Courtney Maud won the offensive zone faceoff, where it was handled by Kaufman along the boards. She chipped it up to Teghan Inglis at the point, who regrouped with a pass to Julia MacLean at the opposite point. MacLean served it back for a hard one-timer for Inglis, notching her third of the weekend to bring the game back to a one goal deficit.
- UConn quashed the comeback with an empty net goal to remain undefeated on the season.
