Lambert Scores First Goal as a Warrior in Defeat at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Riley Lambert netted her first goal as a Warrior in the Merrimack College field hockey team's 10-2 setback to Wagner Thursday afternoon to close the 2021 season at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.

Wagner got off to a strong start and had a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of play. Anne-Sophie Hogenboom stopped the run with her third goal of the season in the second quarter on a penalty corner insert from Jane Bonazzoli. Lambert's first tally in a Warrior jersey came in the fourth quarter to stop a 2-0 run for the Seahawks.

Rapid Recap
  • The Seahawks scored 5:25 into the game, then added a few more to take a 5-0 lead into the second quarter.
  • Hogenboom needed just two minutes in the second quarter to get the Warriors on the board. She took the insert from Bonazzoli on a penalty corner and wound up for a rocket of a shot that beat Wagner's goalkeeper on the near side.
  • It remained 5-1 at the half, then Wagner stretched its lead to 7-1 towards the end of the third quarter. Lambert gave the Merrimack bench something to cheer about when she tallied her first as a Warrior with under nine minutes to play in the game.
  • Wagner tacked on a few more in the final eight minutes to seal it.
