Women's Soccer Edged Out by Central Connecticut

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. —  Despite a potent defensive effort, the Merrimack women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State on Thursday night.

The Summary

• The Warriors were keen defensively from the jump, pushing a slew of opportunities by the Blue Devils to the outside on 15 shot attempts in the half. Starting goalkeeper Michele Silva stood tall against six shots on target to open the match.
• In the second, the game's physical pace accelerated, with Central Connecticut docked for five fouls. Despite the contact, the Blue Devils had 14 shot attempts and four shots on goal against freshman Claire DeFlora, who subbed in at the half.
• Central Connecticut struck the game's only score late in the match, with the Blue Devils' captain Roma McLaughlin firing a rising strike from 25 yards out in the 79th minute.

• The combined 10 saves by Silva and DeFlora are a team-best for the 2021 season.
• Merrimack was sharp against seven corner kicks by Central Connecticut, with five coming in the first half.
