Women’s Volleyball Falters in Season Finale Against Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CONN. –  The Merrimack College women's volleyball team concluded its season on Saturday night against Sacred Heart University, losing 3-0. Maegan Hladick led the Warriors with eight kills.

Rapid Recap
  • Sacred Heart jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Sydney Green put an end to the run with a kill. Later on, in the set Brooke Leestma and Hladick had back-to-back kills to cut the Pioneer lead to five. Sacred Heart went on a seven-point run to go up 12. Hladick had two kills on two straight points to try and mount a Warrior comeback. The comeback ended up being unsuccessful as Merrimack dropped the first set.
  • In the second set the Warriors took a 2-3 lead. Both teams traded points back and forth, until Leestma found the floor with a service ace to give the Warriors an 8-7 lead. Sacred Heart tied the game up at nine and then took a three-point lead on three straight points. Leestma cut the lead to one after a kill. With the Pioneers up 19-14, Kara Haase had a kill to close on the lead by one. Sacred Heart then went on a four-point run and did not relinquish the lead.
  • Sacred Heart started the set on a 5-0 run. The Warriors would get three straight points, highlighted by a kill by Hladick. The Pioneers then went on to score the next five points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Kayla Zinser had a kill to break into the Sacred Heart lead. The Pioneers would not let up the lead in the third set and won the match 3-0.
 
Notes and Numbers
  • Megan Rumenapp led the Warriors in assists with 11 on the night.
  • The Warriors had three service aces.
  • Taelyr Czech was the digs leader with six.
