Men’s Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Boston University

BOSTON, MASS. – With two seconds remaining in the game Boston University knocked down a three to go up by one, the three would eventually win the Terriers the game. Jordan Minor led the Warriors with a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Ziggy Reid added 12 points of his own, including two threes. Senior point guard Mikey Watkins chipped in with 11 points, as well as six assists and four steals in the loss.

  • Minor got the Warriors scoring going in the first half, with a right hook that found the bottom of the net. The Terriers then scored five unanswered points to go up three. Mykel Derring answered with a deep three to tie the game at five. Boston University took a six-point advantage with just over 14 minutes to play in the first. The Terries then went on a 4-0 run to increase the lead to nine. The Warriors then went on an 8-0 run to cut the Boston University lead to just one. Reid tied the game up after a lay in. With the score tied at 20, both teams went back and forth trading buckets and not letting either take a lead by more then four. Merrimack went on a 5-0, at the end of the half, highlighted by a Reid three. The Warriors took a seven-point lead into halftime.
  • The second half started very slow offensively, neither team scored for the first three minutes. Watkins and Reid broke the silence after hitting a jumper and a three on back-to-back possessions to go up by 12. Boston University then went on an 8-0 run to knock the Merrimack lead down to four. Two Jordan McKoy threes gave the Warriors a 10-point advantage with just over 10 minutes left in the game. The Terries responded by going on a 7-0 run to decrease the Merrimack lead to just three. Minor and Watkins combined for a 5-0 run of their own to bring the lead back to eight. A Derring three with five minutes remaining gave the Warriors the lead and control of the game. Boston University responded by going on a four-point run that turned the Merrimack lead to two. Minor hit a layup and 46 seconds left go up four. Two free throws by the Terriers with 21 seconds left cut the Warrior advantage to two. A three with two seconds put Boston University up one. Reid had a three as time expired but was unable to convert.
 
Notes and Numbers
  • The Warriors scored 14 points off of 13 forced turnovers.
  • Since becoming a Division I school, Merrimack and Boston University of play twice. Both games have been decided by one possession.
  • Today marked the second game in a row that three Warriors have scored in double figures.
