Highlights
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A pair of first period goals propelled Boston College past the Merrimack College men's hockey team, as the Warriors dropped a 4-1 decision Friday night at Lawler Rink.
Mac Welsher scored his first goal of the season in the third period to spark a comeback bid, but an empty net goal stopped it. Merrimack mounted a heavy attack in the third frame with an 11-4 edge in shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net more than once.

How It Happened
- Boston College potted book ending goals in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead. It struck 1:43 in, then doubled its lead with 35 seconds left to play. Zachary Borgiel was solid elsewhere in the Merrimack net, as he had nine saves in the stanza.
- Borgiel had an exceptional second frame to keep the margin at two. He got in front of 20 Eagle shots to keep the game at 2-0 after 40 minutes.
- The Eagles took advantage of a turnover 7:25 into the third to finally breakthrough again against Borgiel to make it 3-0.
- Merrimack looked to get back in the game with five minutes to play after it mounted plenty of chances. Welsher dug out a loose puck in the corner, then slipped a feed to Jake Durflinger along the goal line. He flung a shot towards net that bounced around and struck Mick Messner, then came free in the slot. Welsher corralled it and fired a turnaround wrist shot that found the back of the net.
- The Warriors earned a power play opportunity in the final two minutes, but the Eagles took advantage for an empty net goal to close the scoring.
