Women’s Volleyball Falls in Three at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball faced Northeastern University on Thursday night at the Cabot Center in Boston, Mass., falling by a 3-0 final in non-conference action.

Set Breakdown:
  • Points from junior Natasha Vallis and sophomore Maegan Hladick highlighted a 5-2 start to the match for Merrimack. After a kill for sophomore Taylor Vartanian kept Merrimack ahead, 8-7, the Huskies scored the next six points of the first set to grab the lead. Northeastern expanded its advantage to nine, 19-10, and eventually won the opener by a 25-14 margin
  • The Warriors showed fight in the second game. Trailing 17-9, Merrimack won six straight points to climb within two. Hladick notched two kills while junior Brooke Leestma added a pair of service aces during the 6-0 burst. The hosts recovered, however, using an 8-2 run after that to claim a 25-17 victory
  • The Huskies enjoyed sustained success in the third frame, leading 18-5. Merrimack rattled off three unanswered points from there including an ace for sophomore Quinn Kellogg, and the Warriors enjoyed another 3-0 run towards the end of the set that featured another ace from Leestma to go along with block assists for Vartanian and Vallis
Notes & Notables
  • Hladick immediately increased on Tuesday's career high with a six-kill performance on Thursday. She led Merrimack in kills and total attacks (20)
  • The Warriors posted a season-high six service aces. Leestma's team-high three aces were the most she's had in a match at the Division I level
  • Kellogg led Merrimack with seven assists
