Michitson, Soraghan's Pitching Dominance Lead Softball to Sweep Maine

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. --  Senior pitcher Bry Michitson's one-hitter led started off the Warriors' doubleheader efforts on Saturday afternoon against the University of Maine Black Bears, shutting them out 3-0.
 
In the second game of the day, Merrimack's offense wreaked havoc on the base paths, as a complete game win by Bridget Soraghan anchored the Warriors' efforts for the 3-2 win in the second contest. The pitching duo combined for 17 strikeouts between their two complete game efforts.

Rapid Recap (Game One)
  • Merrimack's got its first run of the day in the second. Courtney Lanpher was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on a Lucy Colarusso single to right. Colarusso moved to second, and Lanpher was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Madie Fornwalt for a lead.
  • Maine earned its only hit of the top of the third, as their leadoff hitter singled to right, and was tagged out advancing to second.
  • Abigail Amato went yard, driving a solo home run to left center to double the Warriors lead in the bottom of the third.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Gabby Comeau lead off with a double to right center, and was pinch run for by Sarah Reisler. The speedy Reisler advanced to second and scored on Danielle Carmody's single to up the middle for a 3-0 Merrimack lead.
  • Michitson fanned eight in her complete game shutout, only conceding one hit and one walk to the Black Bears.
 
Rapid Recap (Game Two)
  • The Warriors continued to be patient at the plate in the second game. In the bottom of the third, Reisler worked a walk in a seven pitch at-bat and stole second, coming home on a single through the right side by Kelly Dovi.
  • Sophomore Gabby Comeau singled to right, advancing Dovi to second, with Madison Cerpa working her long at-bat into a walk to load the bases. Lanpher brought Dovi home with a single to third for a 2-0 Merrimack lead.
  • Maine notched its first run of the day in the fourth, as the Black Bears' leadoff hitter notched a triple after the ball was caught in the wind, and was brought home by a single up the middle in their next at-bat.
  • The Warriors added their final run of the day in the sixth, as Jenna Bradish got on base with a single to left field, with Reisler joining her on base with a single to third. Bradish came in to score on a throwing error from short.
  • The Black Bears put the pressure on Soraghan late, after the first hitter of the inning worked a walk and was brought in to score on a throwing error on a sac bunt.

Merrimack will continue at Martone-Mejail Field with its first Northeast Conference competition, hosting Wagner for a weekend series on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. Both doubleheader games will begin at 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M.
