Highlights
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball program scored nine runs on a season-best 13 hits including two home runs – one of which was a grand slam by graduate student
Thomas Joyce – but the Warriors lost in a 10-9 decision against Boston College on Wednesday at the Harrington Athletics Village.
Merrimack held a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but a five-run frame turned the game in favor of the visitors. Prior to the game's later innings, the Warriors received an impressive starting effort from junior
Wyatt Villella, who tossed a career-best five innings on 65 pitches. He allowed just one earned run in his first collegiate start.
Freshman
Bryant Skurbe joined Joyce by hitting a round-tripper, his third of the season. He also posted a team-high three hits. All nine members of Merrimack's lineup reached base, with five members of the starting nine posting multi-hit efforts.

Rapid Recap
- Merrimack's bats were red hot to start the day. In the top of the first inning, the first three Warriors reached base. Skurbe hit a ground ball deep into the hole at short for a RBI fielder's choice for the team's first run. After a hit batsman loaded the bases once more, Joyce walloped a grand slam to right field that gave Merrimack a 5-0 lead
- The offense kept working in the top of the third. With one, Skurbe dug back in and deposited an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a solo shot, increasing the Warriors' lead to six. Later in the inning, Merrimack loaded the bases for senior Michael Jamele, who chopped a two-run single up the middle. When the dust settled, Merrimack owned an 8-0 advantage
- Villella was excellent in his first career start. The right-handed needed just 48 pitches to work through four innings, allowed just a pair of unearned runs. He relented his first earned run in the bottom of the fifth, but limited the damage to the single run. The visitors led, 8-3, through five full frames
- Boston College tagged freshman Tiernan Lynch for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Merrimack got one of those runs back of the seventh when an errant pickoff attempt with runners at first and third allowed junior Michael Golankiewicz to score. The Warriors led, 9-5, going to the bottom half of the inning
- BC sent 10 batters to the plate as part of its five-run seventh inning that gave them a 10-9 edge. The last run that broke a 9-9 deadlock scored on a wild pitch. Merrimack put the potential game-tying run on base in each of its final two at-bats, but were unable to tie the contest
