Softball Falters at UMass Lowell

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. --  The Merrimack College softball fell in in a non-conference doubleheader against the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Wednesday.
 
The Basics

Rapid Recap (Game One)
  • After a back-and-forth pitching bout to start the day, UMass Lowell got the first run of the day in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The River Hawks boosted their lead in the fifth. With the bases loaded, a hit by pitch brought in a run, before a grand slam extended the lead for Lowell.
  • Courtney Lanpher had the first hit of the day for the Warriors with a single punched to center in the fourth.
Rapid Recap (Game Two)
  • Merrimack jumped out offensively in the first inning, as Jordyn Montoya singled up the middle in her first at-bat of the season. Madison Cerpa doubled to left, putting runners on the corners. Kelly Dovi singled up the middle to bring Montoya and Cerpa in for a Merrimack lead.
  • The River Hawks responded in the bottom of the second with a home run to cut the lead in half.
  • UML's offense pushed ahead in the third, with a run scoring on a wild pitch before two home runs brought the hosts to eight runs.
  • The Warriors pushed at the end of the game, with Sarah Reisler and Jordyn Montoya both reaching on errors to put two on. Abigail Amato fouled out to left, with Reisler coming in to score on a throwing error by the right fielder.
  • Pitcher Katelyn Thompson was impactful in her 3.2 innings pitched, with two strikeouts and no hits or runs allowed.
