Highlights
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – An early goal stood up to be the game-winner Thursday afternoon at Duane Stadium, as the Merrimack College field hockey team was knocked off, 1-0, by Sacred Heart.
Abbie Ortyl had a stellar performance in the cage for the Warriors with five saves, all in the first half. The effort was good enough to tie her single game career-high and she now has a team-leading 23 stops on the season.

- A little over three minutes into the game, the Pioneers got the game's first corner and converted. The original shot was blocked down by a Warrior defender, but the rebound was deposited home to send Sacred Heart into the lead.
- The Warriors had solid chances to knot the score in the opening half hour. Merrimack totaled four corners and had five shots, including two on goal, but could not convert.
- Merrimack kept pushing in the third quarter and had a golden chance to equalize. The team had two straight corners, both inserted by Jane Bonazzoli, with the first chance stopped on an Anne-Sophie Hogenboom shot. On the second corner, Juliane Ohmen was stopped, then Erica Spallone's follow-up try was also turned away.
- The Warriors had one final corner in the fourth quarter with 12 and a half minutes to play that was blocked away, then the Pioneers closed it up defensively to snatch the 1-0 victory.

- Merrimack had the final edge in corners by a 7-6 margin.
- Spallone, Ohmen and Hogenboom all tied for the team-high in shots with two.
- Colleen Ellis and Bonazzoli also finished with a shot on goal.
