Four Touchdowns From Dawson Gives Football Third NEC Victory of the Season

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College football team scored 42 second half points on Saturday afternoon to beat Wagner College to remain undefeated in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. Victor Dawson scored four touchdowns and ran for 128 yards in the victory. His counterpart in the backfield, Tyvon Edmonds Jr. ran for a career-high 140 yards and two touchdowns. Rodney Samson led the Warriors with seven tackles in the game.

How It Happened
  • Three punts started the afternoon matchup with Wagner getting the fourth possession of the game. The Seahawks scored on a four-yard rush up the middle to take a one score lead with six minutes left in the first quarter. Two more punts rounded out the first quarter. Merrimack had the ball on their own five to start the second. The Warriors were forced to punt once again. Cole Peterson pinned Wagner on their own one-yard line. One the first play from scrimmage Brandon Roberts broke through and sacked the Seahawk quarterback for a safety, putting the Warriors down by five. Merrimack got the ball back after the safety and scored in three plays, all three runs were from Dawson. The Warriors found themselves up two. After back-to-back three and outs, Wagner scored to take back the lead. Right before the end of the half, Lliam Davis knocked down a 30-yard field goal to send Merrimack into the locker room down by two.  
  • Gavin McCusker opened the second half with a 64-yard bomb to LJ Robinson. Two plays later Dawson scored his second touchdown of the afternoon. The Warriors were now up five. The Seahawks knocked down a field goal to go down two. On the next Warrior possession Edmonds Jr. ran the ball four straight times, the last ending in the endzone. Merrimack went up by nine. Dawson then scored on a one-yard run up the middle on the Warriors next possession, making the score 33-17. On the first play of the fourth quarter McCusker found Jacari Carter for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Merrimack was now up 40-17. After a couple punt the Warriors got the ball back, Dawson ran the ball 34-yard to the house for his fourth touchdown of the afternoon. Edmonds Jr. added one more touchdown on Merrimack's next possession making the score 54-17.

The Warriors get back to action next Saturday when Sacred Heart visits Duane Stadium. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
