NEWARK, N.J. – For the first time in program history the Merrimack College men's basketball team was selected as the preseason favorite in the Northeast Conference (NEC) on Wednesday afternoon at NEC Media Day in Newark, N.J.
The festivities were held at the Prudential Center with head coach
Joe Gallo and senior forward
Ziggy Reid representing Merrimack in front of their peers from the other eight NEC institutions in attendance.
Merrimack was selected first in the poll, receiving six out of the possible nine first-place votes. Sacred Heart University was second after getting two first-place nods, while Saint Francis University was ranked third followed by Wagner College ranked fourth and Saint Francis Brooklyn in fifth place. Both Gallo and Reid participated in the Social Media Day festivities. The duo joined the live program in the morning, discussing their expectations ahead of their season opener among other basketball related topics.
The Warriors will open their season at St. John's University on November 7. Merrimack will play its first home game on that Thursday when Clark University visits North Andover.
