 Merrimack: 5
Records:Â
Merrimack (3-1-0, 1-0-0 HEA)Â | COL (1-4-0, 0-0-0 ECAC)
Attendance: 2,072
How it happened:
Â
Merrimack started the game off strong, recording 4 shots in the first 3 minutes and set the tone with offensive control early.
Â
Their best chance prior to the goal was off some great passing with the 11-12-13 line of
Mick Messner,
Jordan Seyfert, and
Will Calverley but the end result shot was stopped by the opposing goaltender.
Â
Mac Welsher scored the game's opening goal when
Alex Jefferies picked out a speeding
Mac Welsher in the slot who made no mistake for his second goal of the season at 7:43 of the opening frame.
Matt Copponi also recorded the secondary assist on the marker.
Â
Despite finding the net for the second time in the opening 20, Merrimack's strong possession advantage made it difficult for the Raiders to get in any kind of rhythm, holding the shots on goal lead 18-8 and recording 27 shot attempts.
Â
In the second, Merrimack went on the early penalty kill but allowed no shots and recorded 1 block on the kill.
Â
Nine seconds after getting out of the box,
Ben Brar turned his negative into a positive, doubling the lead for Merrimack at the 6:12 mark of the second.
Slava Demin picked up his first point in a Merrimack uniform.
Â
Demin wasn't done though, as he scored his first as Warrior only minutes later on a shot down low.
Kevin Sadovski notched his first assist of the season in his first game of the young season as well.
Â
The Warriors strong period continued, with a faceoff in the final ten seconds,
Will Calverley won it back to
Jordan Seyfert who scored the team's fourth on an absolute ripper, and with that goal Merrimack had their second- three goal period in two games.
Â
Merrimack continued to be tone setter throughout the second, holding Colgate to six shots on goal in the second, while they scored three times on 12 shots.
Â
Merrimack's offense refused to yield in the final 20 minutes, as Ottoville Leppanen grabbed his first goal banking it off the goaltender to nab his first of the year and the Warriors had their second 5+ goal output in the week.
