Women’s Hockey Comes Up Short Against Boston College

North Andover, Mass. - The Merrimack women's hockey team was defeated in their first game of Hockey East play by Boston College who also earned their 500th victory in program history with a 4-1 result, Thursday night at Lawler Rink.

The Basics

Rapid Recap:
  • The Warriors found themselves down early in the first period when they lost possession in the Eagles zone during a power play and Hannah Bilka beat goaltender Calli Hogarth on the subsequent short-handed breakaway to give Boston College the lead at 7:39
  • The Eagles doubled their lead just past the halfway point in the game when the puck squirted out from the end boards following a scrum, finding Katie Pyne wide open in the slot to make the score 2-0. The Warriors had 17 shots in the period but were unable to find the back of the net.
  • Boston College scored their third of the game at 8:45 of the period when Abby Newhook scored on a powerplay taking the pass across the crease and rounding the goalie to put the Eagles up 3-0.
  • Merrimack got on the board only thirteen seconds later on the powerplay when Katie Kaufman scored her second goal of the season off the faceoff with a little help from a deflection off a BC player. 
  • The Warriors comeback effort was ended when Gaby Roy scored on a shot in close to put the game away.
  Top performer/Notable stats  
  • Kaufman scored her second goal of the season and second in two games.
  • Tara Blackburn continues her fantastic start to the season with her fourth point in three games, she's also had a point in all three.  
  • Teghan Inglis picked up her first point of the season with an assist on the Kaufman goal, and led the team in blocks with four.
  • Celine Tedenby led the Warriors in shots with five.
