Three Second Half Goals Propel Women’s Soccer to Victory Over Saint Francis

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to take the lead and beat Saint Francis University on an unusually hot fall day in North Andover. Molly Murnane scored the equalizer in the 74th minute after getting a pass from Hallie Shiers. 10 minutes later Ella Cormier found the back of the net to give the Warriors the lead late in the game.

  • The action started right out of the gate for Merrimack after Cassie Avenick launched a free kick from just outside the box. The ball hit the cross bar and bounced directly down and into the net, giving the Warriors a one-goal advantage. The Red Flash came back with back-to-back goals of their own to take the lead. Erin Tyldesley had a shot from outside the box in the 24th minute that was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Sydney Haskins had a shot in the final five minutes of the first half that missed high and right.
  • A minute into the second half, Saint Francis scored its third goal of the game, giving them a two-goal lead. Cormier had a shot in the 57th minute that missed high and to the left. In the 72nd minute Jillian Golden scored after finding a line to the back of the net. The Warriors found themselves down one. Two minutes later, Murnane found a lane, scoring and tying the game at three. With momentum on their side Merrimack began to attack. Daniela Almeida had a shot in the 82nd minute that missed high. Tyldesley then had a shot on goal that was saved by the Red Flash goalkeeper. In the 84th minute Cormier found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
