Women's Volleyball Beats St. Francis Brooklyn, Friday

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team defeated St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night for its second Northeast Conference (NEC) win of the season. Cate Wright  and Julz Carlat led the Warriors in kills with 18. Quinn Kellogg ranked first in assists with 37 on the night.

Rapid Recap
  • The Warriors started off the set with a two-point lead by a service ace from Mia Ardila. The Terriers responded with two points until the Warriors went on a five-point lead led by a kill from Avery Brown. Both teams responded to each other with different point leads throughout the first set. Carlat lead the team in kills with five during the set with Wright following suite with three kills. St. Francis later on in the set went on a four-point run to finish out the first set.
  • In the second set, Merrimack fired on all cylinders with a four point lead after the Terriers scored the first point of the set. Sydney Green and Wright both had kills during this lead. Both teams traded leads over each other until later on in the set. The Warriors finished the second set by going on an eight-point run lead by Wright with Ashley Gajdzik getting two aces.
  • The Warriors looked to take over the third set with a four point lead after the Terriers started off with a three-point lead in the beginning of the set. Carlat and Green lead the run with Carlat having two kills and Green having one. Towards the end of the set, St. Francis Brooklyn was looking to catch up and win the set, until Carlat ended the set with a kill.
  • Going into the fourth set, the Warriors wanted to finish the set early by going on a four-point lead. Green, Carlat, and Wright took over for the Warriors in this final set with Green getting three kills, Carlat with five kills, and Wright having six kills. Merrimack would go on to win the set in a hard fought victory.

  • Lauryn Mattiucci led the team in digs with 15 in the victory.
  • Merrimack had 59 kills to St. Francis Brooklyn's 37.
