NORTH ANDOVER MA,
Merrimack's men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw today in a tough hard fought match against the St.Francis Brooklyn on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Merrimack (4-5-2, 1-1-1) vs Saint Francis Brooklyn (6-3-2 2-0-1)
Rapid Recap:
Neither team was able to find the net in the first half, however Merrimack was definitely the team that was pushing play through the first 45 minutes.
Just passed the 10 minute mark
Juri Schlingmann's fantastic move to the outside and cross just bounced away from Min Jin Jang.
Just over five minutes later Schlingmann had yet another chance but it was stopped by the Saint Francis Brooklyn keeper.
At the 38 minute mark
Johan Feilscher's effort from close range was turned away at the near post as well.
And then the last big chance the Warriors had in the half was when the ball careened to
Rintaro Miyawaki, but he was denied on the line of the goal by a Terriers defender.
Merrimack grabbed the lead in the second half just after 56 minutes when
Curtis Moore scored a stunning goal that nestled in the top corner of the net with a shot attempt just outside the 18 yard box.
However, the lead did not last long as five minutes later the Terriers got their equalizer on a goal that was very similar to Moore's effort, as the shot went top corner just past the outstretched arms of
Alvaro Rodriguez.
With the game knotted up at one, Merrimack nearly broke the tie but Schlingmann's one on one chance was turned away.
In the final 18 minutes, Merrimack was a man up following a red card to Saint Francis Brooklyn however the Warriors were unable to retake the lead and after a scrappy end of the game, the score finished at 1-1.
