Links: Box Score

BOSTON – Led by a goalie goal from Henry Vogt, the Merrimack College men's lacrosse team came up just shy in a comeback attempt at Boston University in a 12-10 defeat Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Merrimack jumped out to a 5-3 lead at the half thanks to two goals from Tommy Rooney, but the Terriers came back to take a 9-8 lead after 45 minutes. The Warriors tied it early in the fourth, but Boston University netted three of the final four goals to close out the game.

Vogt electrified the Warrior bench with under four minutes to play when he tallied his first collegiate goal from his goalkeeper post to make it 11-10, but Boston University sealed the game with a goal with three seconds remaining.

Jack Rooney tallied a hat trick on the day, including back-to-back goals late in the third quarter and into the early stages of the fourth. Sean Black tied for the team-high in points thanks to a goal in the first quarter, then he also added a pair of assists.

In his own cage, Vogt turned in one of the best performances of his career. He stopped a career-high 23 shots, which topped his previous career best of 19, which he set Mar. 6, 2021 at Bryant.
