PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. – The Merrimack College baseball team opened its 2022 campaign on Friday afternoon down in Port Charlotte, Florida against Indiana State University. The Warriors fell by a score of 14-2.
Alex Haba led the Warriors with two hits on the afternoon. He also scored one of the squads two runs.
Bryant Skurbe and
Anthony Gentile had the two RBI's for Merrimack in the defeat.

- Down in the Sunshine State, Haba led off the inning with a single up the middle to threaten the Sycamores right out of the gate. The senior then advanced to second on a passed ball. Michael Golankiewicz walked putting runners on first and second with no outs. Haba then advanced to third on a wild pitch by the Indiana State pitcher. Skurbe singled to right to put the Warriors on the board and give them a 1-0 lead. The Sycamores added two runs in the bottom half of the first. Starting pitcher Timmy Kalantzakos got Indiana State to go down in order in the bottom half of the second.
- The Sycamores added four runs on five hits in the third. In the top of the fifth Ben Nelson singled for his first hit of the young season. Haba drew a walk a batter later, putting runners on first and second with only one out. Indiana State struck out the next two Warriors batters to end the threat in the fifth. Tyghe Healy got out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth to keep the score 6-1. Andrew Selima singled to start the sixth for Merrimack. The graduate student advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Gentile singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Selima. Healy left two runners stranded in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Warriors went down in the seventh in order. In the bottom half, the Sycamores scored six runs on six hits to increase their lead to 10. In the eighth, Indiana State added two more runs to make its total 14. In the top of the ninth Aidan Hawley reached on an error, but the Warriors failed to score him.
