Men’s Basketball Concludes Regular Season with Victory over St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team finished the regular season off in Brooklyn by beating St. Francis Brooklyn 72-52. Both Jordan Minor and Ziggy Reid scored a game-high 27 points. Minor capped off his third Northeastern Conference (NEC) campaign with his league leading 13th double-double of the season after pulling down 12 rebounds. Reid added eight rebounds to his season total and knocked down four threes. The junior's both scored 11 times from the field.

  • Merrimack opened the game on a four-point run. The Terriers responded by added nine points and taking a five-point lead. A Reid jumper stopped the Warrior scoring drought. Reid then tied the game on another jumper. Both teams battled, with 12 minutes to play Reid hit another jumper to send Merrimack up three. St. Francis tied the game at 22 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Minor gave the Warriors a two-point lead on a post-up lay in. With the game tied at 25 at the final media timeout, the Terriers knocked down back-to-back threes on two straight offensive possessions to go up six. Merrimack responded by going on a five-point run to head into the locker rooms down just one.
  • Minor scored on a layup in the first possession of the second half, putting the Warriors up one. Mykel Derring added a free throw to send Merrimack up a bucket. St Francis tied the game on a jumper. Minor and Nick Filchner combined for a four-point run to put the Warriors up four. A Reid three with 13 minutes to play put Merrimack up seven, which was their most commanding lead of the game so far. Minor added four more points across the span of a number of possessions to go up 11. Malik Edmead scored his first two points of the game with eight minutes left in the game, giving the Warriors a 12-point advantage. Minor and Derring followed up with buckets to take their biggest lead of the game at 16. After a Terrier jumper, Reid hit his fourth three of the afternoon to go up 17. St Francis got it down to 13 with three minutes to go in the game. Minor went on a solo five-point run to put the Warriors up 18 and end any chance at a comeback for the Terriers.
Notes and Numbers
  • With the win today, the Warriors now have 33 Northeast Conference wins in their first three seasons in Division I.
  • Minor's 13th double-double ranks him first in the conference in the category.
  • Merrimack finished the season a perfect 7-0 when shooting over 50%. The squad shot 53% in the victory over St. Francis.
  • Reid had a season-high in points (27), shots made (11), shots attempted (15) and threes made (4).
