Michitson, Strong Offense Combine for Win Over Siena

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Despite a weather delay and challenging winds, Merrimack softball earned its first win in Florida and third win of the season against Siena on Saturday.
 
The Basics

Scoring Plays
  • Merrimack took the lead in the first inning and didn't look back. Sarah Reisler as a two-hitter singled down the left field line to get on base. Ellen Hubbard doubled to right, sending Reisler to third. With one out after a bunt attempt, Sydney Shimkus singled to deep center bringing in Reisler and Hubbard to score.
  • Viviana Bocanegra singled for the fourth hit of the inning, sending Shimkus to third before a fly ball to right ending the Warriors' offensive half inning.
  • Continuing with momentum in the second inning, the Warriors continued to work with the bat. Catherine Kingman led off with a single to left before being pulled off the bags on a runner left early call. Jenna Bradish and Courtney Lanpher served back-to-back singles at short with Bradish getting nabbed on the force out.
  • Reisler stepped in with two outs and sent a single to center to advance Lanpher to third and runners on the corners. In her second plate appearance of the day, Hubbard singled down the left field line to bring Lanpher in for the run. With runners on the corners, Jenna Wike was hit by a pitch to load the bases before a ground out to third closed the offensive outburst with five hits in the second.
  • Defensively the Warriors locked in, turning 11 ground outs against Siena, while fighting the winds for seven fly outs in the game.
  • Bry Michitson in the circle stepped up, allowing only one hit from the fourth to seventh innings against the Saints for her second win of the season.
