NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in The Basketball Classic, presented by ERACISM. The Warriors first round game time and opponent will be announced later on Monday.
The Basketball Classic consists of 32-teams and is in a single-elimination format. First-round games will be played this week. The semifinals will be played on March 29, with the championship game scheduled two days later on March 31. All games will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be played on campus sites.
"This is a great opportunity for our program to be able to compete in a post season", said head coach
Joe Gallo. "This is a testament to our guys for winning five of our last six games and staying with it all the way to the end. Anytime you can play basketball in March it is a great thing!"
Gallo and his squad have been on a tear since hitting the Division I scene during the 2019-20 season. In three seasons, the Warriors have rattled off 43 victories and have won one Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season title. This year, Merrimack won five of their last six games of the season, including four in a row. Junior forward
Jordan Minor earned a second team all- conference honor after averaging 15.1 points per game and pulling down 8.2 rebounds.
This will be the first time that the Warriors will play in the postseason since becoming a member of a Division I conference.
