KINGSTON, R.I. – The Merrimack College baseball team defeated the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon, 6-2. A two-run home run by
Scott Elliott gave the Warriors all the momentum they needed to propel them to victory.
Anthony Gentile had a career-high three hits in the victory for Merrimack. On the bump, the Warriors won the game with a solid outing from all four pitchers that toed the rubber.
Tyghe Healy earned his first win of the season after throwing two strong innings, allowing just one run on one hit.

- In the top of the first, Michael Golankiewicz drew a walk with two outs in the inning, but could not get past first base. Merrimack starter Timmy Kalantzakos got the Rams to go down in order in the first. Rhode Island scored on a solo homerun to take a one run advantage in the bottom of the second. Alex Haba singled down the third base line with two outs in the third, then stole second. Gentile then singled to left to tie the game for Merrimack. Kalantzakos had a shutdown inning in the third, getting the Ram to go down quickly. Ben Nelson singled with one down in the fourth, but got caught stealing second. Rhode Island took back the lead after another solo home run.
- Stephen Santarpia ripped a double to left with one out in the fifth. Elliott then came to the plate and launched the first home run of his career to left field to give Merrimack a one score lead. Gentile then singled up the middle with two outs, then advanced two bases on a wild pitch. Golankiewicz drew a walk, putting runners on first and third. Bryant Skurbe reached base on a fielding error, scoring Gentile from third. In the seventh, Haba led off the inning with a triple to right. Gentile stayed got and singled to left, scoring Haba. The Warriors now lead by three. The Warriors scored one more in the seventh on a wild pitch. Jack Collins pitch the eighth and ninth, allowing just one hit and zero runs.
