Baseball Bested By #19 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TEXAS. – The Merrimack College baseball team played game one of four against #19 Texas Tech University on Friday night. Thomas Crowley drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth to score the only run for the Warriors. Alex Haba, Anthony Gentile, and Kurtis Stadnicki all had hits for the Warriors in the defeat.

  • Gentile singled after hitting a ball to the left side of the infield, putting a runner on first with one out in the inning. The Warriors failed to get him past first base. In the bottom half of the inning Timmy Kalantzakos got the Red Raiders to go down in order, including striking out the first batter he faced. Andrew Selima led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, putting a runner on first with no outs. Merrimack then hit into a fielder's choice, followed by a double play that ended the inning. The Red Raiders answered with five runs on three hits in the bottom half of the second to take an early lead. The Warriors went down in order in the third. Texas Tech tacked on three more runs on three hits to extend its lead to eight.
  • The Red Raiders added two runs in the fourth, turning their lead to double figures. In the top half of the fifth, Merrimack threatened after a walk by Crowley and single by Stadnicki on back-to-back at bats. Merrimack failed to advance either, ending the inning. A single by Haba lead off the sixth. With two outs, Bryant Skurbe and Selima drew walks. Crowley then drew a third straight free pass to add one to the Warrior score. Texas Tech responded by adding five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth. The Red Raiders added one more run in the final three innings.
