Women's Tennis Bested At Fairfield University

TRUMBULL, Conn. – The Merrimack College women's tennis team hit the road this Saturday to travel to Trumbull, Conn. at 6 PM where they faced non-conference opponents from Fairfield University. After an extremely close battle for the doubles point, the Warriors came out empty handed, losing to the Stag's 6-1.

Putting the team on the board was freshman, Dhzastina Mikhnova, who cruised through the first set in singles 6-2. Mikhnova remained confident and steady throughout the rest of the match, beating her opponent in straight sets and only letting up 2 games the entire match for an overall score of 6-2, 6-0.

  • Both #2 and #4 singles fought their way into third sets. At the 2 spot, junior, Allyson Nerf, pulled out a first set tiebreak with an overall score of 7-6(7-4). Though the fight lasted nearly two hours, Nerf fell short on the following two sets with an overall score of 7-6(7-4), 5-7, 2-6. Senior, Rosemary Campanella, also fought her way into a long match; after dominating the first set 6-2, Campanella lost in both a second and third set tiebreak; while the Warriors came up short on this singles point, the senior fought hard for three whole sets for an overall score of 6-2, 6-7(5-7), 8-10.
