Baseball Suffers Defeat vs. Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Merrimack College baseball team was downed by Harvard University on Tuesday afternoon. A two-run home run by Jake Macchi in the bottom of the eighth was the only offense for the Warriors. The round tripper was his second in as many games.

  • Scott Elliott drew a walk with one out in the top of the first. He then stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Andrew Selima then also drew a free pass to put two runners on. Neither scored in the inning. Harvard scored one run in the first to take an early lead. Ben Nelson and Bryant Skurbe earned back-to-back walked to put two runners on once again for the Warriors. Alex Haba was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. The inning ended with no runners reaching home plate. Merrimack starter Damon Fuller got the Crimson to go down in order in the second. The Crimson added five runs in the bottom of the third to go up six. Christian Gemelli drew a walk to lead off the top of the fourth. He was left stranded. Harvard added one in the bottom half of the fourth to go up seven.
  • The Crimson got another five runs in the fifth to go up a dozen. Tyghe Healy struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth. The Crimson scored four more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Selima led off the eighth with a single to center. Macchi then launched a home run to left, scoring two.

  • Haba's hit streak extends to 14 games, which is the highest on the team and is the most games in a row on the season.
  • Macchi has now homered twice in the last two games.
