Baseball Takes Weekend Series at Wagner

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Merrimack College baseball team took game three of the weekend series with Wagner College, 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. Scott Elliott had three hits, including a triple in his four at bats. He also scored one run for the Warriors in the victory. Anthony Gentile had only one hit, but led the squad in RBI's with two on the afternoon. Cedric Gillette earned his third victory of the season after throwing five innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

  • Elliott doubled with one out in the top of the first, he was left in scoring position at the end of the inning. The Seahawks got on the board first in the in the bottom of the second after a sac fly scored a run from third. Elliott bunted for a single with no outs in the fourth. He was then picked off for the first out of the inning. Jake Macchi stayed hot and singled to left. Braydon Dolbashian then singled, getting Macchi to second. Michael Golankiewicz drew a walk to load the bases. Gentile then singled past the second baseman, scoring two runs and giving Merrimack its first lead of the game.  
  • Wagner tied the game in the bottom of the fifth after a solo home run to left. Macchi singled with no outs in the sixth. Christian Gemelli then walked to put two runners on. A wild pitch advanced both runners a base. Another wild pitch a couple pitches later scored Macchi from third and gave the Warriors the lead. A sac fly by Dolbashian increased the advantage to two runs. Wagner added one in the bottom half of the sixth to pull within one run. Elliott led off the top of the eighth with a triple, he then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Warriors back to two-run lead. Macchi reached on a fielding error from the Wagner shortshop. Dolbashian then doubled, putting two runners on. Gentile then reached on another error, scoring the runner from third and putting Merrimack up three. The Seahawks got two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but was not enough to give them the series win.

  • Macchi has been on a tear this weekend. He now has eight hits in three games.
  • Merrimack only scored runs in three innings, all three had multiple runs scored in the inning.
