Baseball Falls in Season Finale to Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The Merrimack College baseball team fell in its season finale on Saturday afternoon to Central Connecticut State University by a score of 6-5. The Warriors were led by Scott Elliott and Ben Nelson, both had two hits on the afternoon. Nelson had two RBI's and Elliott had just one.

  • Elliott singled to lead off the game off the game for the Warriors. He was left on first at the end of the inning. The Blue Devils scored one run in the bottom half of the first to take an early lead. Andrew Selima singled up the middle with two down in the second. Stephen Santarpia then reached on a throwing error, putting two runners on. Nelson was the next batter and he singled up the middle, scoring both runners and giving the Warriors a one-run lead. Central Connecticut added two runs to take back the lead in the bottom of the second. Both teams battled back and fourth, until the top of the sixth. 
  • In the top of the sixth, Jake Macchi led the inning off by being hit by a pitch. Michael Golankiewicz then doubled down the line, getting Macchi to third. Braydon Dolbashian then drew a walk to load the bases. Stadnicki and Selima were both hit by a pitch on back-to-back at bats to put Merrimack up by two runs. The Blue Devils then scored two runs in the bottom half of the sixth to tie the game up once again. In the top of the eighth, Stadnicki knocked his second single of the game to left field. Selima reached on a fielder's choice, keeping a runner on first. Nelson singled, putting two runners on. Neither ended up reaching home plate, keeping the game tied at five. Central Connecticut got one run in the bottom of the eighth to go up by one. The Warriors could not get anything going in the top of the ninth.

  • Two everyday players finished the season batting over .300. Haba (.368) and Elliott (.316) both are from Franklin, Mass.
