Football Shuts Out Long Island for Third Straight Win

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Merrimack College football team won its third straight game of the season against Long Island University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors scored 39 unanswered points. Donovan Wadley had just two receptions, but both ended in the endzone. Tyvon Edmonds Jr. had 107 yards rushing on the day. It was his fourth plus 100-yard game of the season. Quarterback Malakai Anthony threw nine passes, completing five of them for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, the Merrimack defense which is statistically one of the best in the FCS, held the Sharks to zero points and just 131 total yards of offense. Rajahn Cooper had his first interception of the season to go along with two tackles. Tyler Leavy led the way for the Warriors with five total tackles.

After forcing a Long Island punt, Lliam Davis knocked down a 21-yard field goal to give Merrimack an early lead. After another three and out, Anthony found Wadley for an 83-yard touchdown pass and catch, the longest of both their careers. The Warriors would end the first quarter up 10-0. On the first drive of the second quarter, Davis would knock down a 25-yarder to put Merrimack up 13. After two punts by the Sharks and one by Merrimack the Warriors would get the ball back with two minutes to go in the half. With under a minute to go, Anthony would find Seth Sweitzer streaking across the middle of the field for a 33-yard touchdown. The score is the first of his Merrimack career. The Warriors would head into halftime up 20.
 
On the opening kickoff Wadley took it 90-yards for a touchdown. The return is his second of the season. On the following Long Island possession Cooper would jump a screen pass and pick off the Sharks quarterback. On the possession, Davis knocked down a 42-yard field goal, putting Merrimack up 30. After forcing yet another three and out on defense, the Warriors would take back over on offense. Anthony would end up finding Wadley for a second time ripping up the middle of the field for a 40-yard touchdown. Davis would hit a 44-yard field goal in the fourth, giving Merrimack a 39-0 victory.

• Leavy also led the team in tackles for a loss with two on the afternoon.
• The Warriors outgained the Sharks 398-131. Merrimack also averaged seven yards a play compared to Long Island who averaged 2.7.
• The Warriors have now won the last three meetings by a score of 106-28.
