Men's Basketball Falls to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Merrimack College men's basketball team was defeated by the Ohio State University on Wednesday night. Devon Savage had a team-high 20 points after knocking down six threes. Bryan Etumnu had a career-high 11 points he also had four rebounds. Jacob O'Connell had four points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Rapid Recap
  • The Buckeyes scored the first six points of the game to take an early lead. Savage then answered with his first the of the night to cut the lead in half. Ohio State then added two points to go up five. A three by Jaylen Stinson made the advantage two. Both teams battled back and forth for a number of minutes. The Buckeyes then went on a six-point run to go up by nine. O'Connell stopped the run with a layup. After going down by 12, the Warriors went on a seven-point run to go down by five with seven minutes to play in the first half. Ohio State then added four points to go up nine. Savage hit a jumper, followed by a three to cut the lead down to four. The Buckeyes then went on a six-point run, all off of free throws to go up by 10 points. Merrimack would go on a run before the end of the half and headed into the locker room down by six. 
  • Etumnu got the scoring going in the second half with a layup to cut the Ohio State lead to four. The Buckeyes then added 10 straight points to go up 14. Adam "Budd" Clark ended the run with a jumper. The Warriors then score 10 out of the next 14 points to cut the advantage down to six points. Ohio State responded by going on a 16-point run to go up by 22. The Buckeyes did not look back and would win the game by 24.

  • Both Stinson and Savage had two steals.
  • O'Connell also had three blocks in the loss.
  • The Warriors forced 13 Buckeye turnovers.

Merrimack will play next Wednesday in Samford, Alabama against North Carolina A&T University. Tip is set for 3:30 p.m.
