Football Downed By UMass After Late Comeback Falls Short

AMHERST, MASS. – The Merrimack College football team lost its final non-conference game of the season at the University of Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. Tyvon Edmonds Jr. ran for 75 yards in the loss. Nicholas Lenon led the team in tackles with seven on the afternoon. Late in the game Jelani Mason threw for the first touchdown of his Warrior career.

After two punts to start off the game, Merrimack took the ball down the field on a five-play drive that ended on a Malakai Anthony five-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors an early lead. UMass scored on their next offensive possession to tie the game at seven. The score would be tied heading into the second. The Minutemen would find the end zone towards the end of the second quarter to go up by seven points. The Warriors would march down field using 12 plays as the half concluded. A missed 39-yard field goal would end the half.

The second half started like the first with both sides trading defensive stops. UMass would knock down a field goal with six minutes to play in the third quarter to go up 10. The Minutemen would stay up 10 heading into the final quarter. On the first play of the fourth quarter UMass would find the end zone. The score would put them up 17 points. The Minutemen would score again with eight minutes to go in the game. On the ensuing kick off Donovan Wadley took it 95-yards to the end zone for his third kick return of the season. On the next offensive possession for Merrimack, Mason found LJ Robinson streaking up the sideline for a touchdown, putting the Warriors down by 10.

Notes and Figures
The kick return from Wadley is his third on the season.
Deon Houston led the team in solo tackles wth four in the loss.
Along with his touchdown pass, Mason also led the team in receptions with four.

Merrimack heads home to take on Central Connecticut next Saturday. Kick off is set for noon.
