Men's Basketball Downs Hartford For Fifth Straight Win

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team won its fifth straight game on Thursday night over the University of Hartford, 67-59. Jordan Minor earned his 11th double-double of the season after scoring 25 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Ziggy Reid added a season-high 24 points in the victory for the Warriors. Javon Bennett was the third Merrimack player in double figures with 13 points. The freshman point guard was one assist away from his own double-double.

Rapid Recap
  • Two minutes into the game the score was tied at two. The Warriors then added seven points capped off with a Jordan Derkack dunk to go up by seven. The Hawks battled back to cut the lead down to three. With 10 minutes to play the advantage was five points after a Minor layup. Reid knocked down a three to bring the lead back up to six. Hartford got it once again down to three with seven minutes to go in the first half. A Minor jumper and Reid three gave Merrimack its biggest lead of the night at eight. Minor had a dunk the next offensive possession to swell the lead to 10. Reid hit another three with three minutes to go in the first half to make it a 13-point Warrior lead. Bennett had a jumper to put Merrimack up 15 going into halftime.
  • A Reid free throw three minutes into the second half gave the Warriors a 17-point lead. A few minutes later the Hawks would get it down to 12. A Minor dunk stopped the run. Hartford was down nine with 11 and a half minutes to go in the second half. Reid knocked down a three with nine to go to push Merrimack up by 14. Both teams went back and forth for a number of minutes. With two minutes left to play the Hawks got the lead back down to single digits at nine. It was a two possession game with 40 seconds left, but good free throw shooting down the stretch from Reid gave the Warriors an eight-point win.

Notes and Numbers
  • Both Devon Savage and Jaylen Stinson finished the game with four steals. Merrimack finished with 16 overall.
  • The Warriors shot 80% from the free throw line.
  • Merrimack forced 23 turnovers.
