Lanpher Powers Softball To Win Over UMBC

Baltimore, MD- The Merrimack Women's Softball team rolled to victory in the final game of the Retriever Classic by a final score of 9-4 over the hosts UMBC Retrievers.
The Warriors took the early lead after Ellen Hubbard led off the game with a single, Courtney Lanpher homered to left to put the Warriors up two. The Warriors tacked on two more runs in the second as after back to back walks, Griffin would singled home both runners to make it a 4-0 game.
UMBC would get on the board with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Merrimack would re-extend the lead in fourth inning as Hubbard would scored Sofia Palyan on a groundout before Madison Cerpa would score Sam Russalesi and Thiana Brito with a single to left, putting the Warriors up six.
The Retrievers would get another run back in the fourth, maiking the Warriors lead five, and then would cut the lead to three in the fifth following a home run.
The Warriors would find their putaway blow in the sixth as Lanpher would hit a two out, two strike home run, her second of the afternoon, putting the Warriors back up five and putting the game away.
 
Notes and Numbers:
Courtney Lanpher homered twice, and walked once in the win.
Bailey McDermott doubled in her only plate appearance.
Ellen Hubbard, Madison Cerpa, Kaitlynn Griffin and Sam Russalesi all had a hit each.
Bry Michitison picked up her second win of the season, striking out four over four innings.
Katelyn Thompson notched the save with three innings of two hit ball.

The Warriors will play Boston College on the road on Tuesday, March 14th. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
