Four Home Runs Gives Baseball Second Straight Victory Over Maine

ANDOVER, MASS – Two home runs from Frankie Ferrentino paced the offense for Merrimack College baseball in its 11-10 win over the University of Maine on Wednesday afternoon. Michael Golankiewicz and Alex Haba also had home runs in the win.

● In the top of the first with a runner on, Ferrentino launched his first home run of the afternoon over the fence giving the Warriors an early lead. In the second, Jake Macchi doubled to left, scoring a runner and in the process put Merrimack up by three. In the top half of the third, the Black Bears tied the game up at three. A second Ferrentino home run gave the Warriors back the lead by one. Maine then countered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up by three. In the bottom half of the fifth, Stephen Santarpia hit a sac fly to left field, scoring a runner from third, putting Merrimack down two. Golankiewicz then hit a three-run home run to give Merrimack back a one-run advantage. Later in the inning Haba singled to right, putting the Warriors up by two runs. The Black Bears added one run in the seventh to go down one. A Haba home run in the bottom of the seventh put Merrimack right back up by two once again. Maine scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 10. Christian Scanlon doubled to center in a pinch hitting opportunity in the bottom of the eighth to give Merrimack a one-run lead. Jack Collins would shut the door in the top of the ninth, giving the Warriors the win.
