Loretto, PA.- The Merrimack Women's Softball team pulled off the NEC Tournament opening upset as they knocked off the Saint Francis University Red Flash by a score of 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Red Flash scored the games first run, but Merrimack found their answer in the top of the fifth inning as
Bry Michitson began the inning with a lead off single, she would move to second after a
Hannah Scarano groundout.
Thiana Brito put runners on the corners before an
Ellen Hubbard sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring positon. With two on and two out,
Courtney Lanpher smacked a base hit over the head of the leaping Red Flash second base-woman, scoring Michitson and Brito on a close play at the plate.
As the Warriors held the one run lead,
Bry Michitson would finish her great performance on the day, allowing two hits in the last three innings and recording an assist on the game's final out to get the win.

The Warriors will play either Long Island University or Central Connecticut State University in the winner's bracket game tomorrow at 10 AM. The game can be seen on ESPN3 or NEC Front Row.
