Baseball Drops Series Opener with Fairleigh Dickinson

TEANECK, N.J. – The Merrimack College baseball team lost its first of three games this weekend to Fairleigh Dickinson University on Friday afternoon 9-8.

Rapid Recap
● In the top of the first Frankie Ferrentino doubled to left center, scoring a runner from third and giving the Warriors an early lead. Two innings later Michael Golankiewicz launched a solo home run to put Merrimack up two runs early. The Knights battled back in the fourth, scoring two runs to tie the game. Ferrentino then doubled down the right field line in the top half of the fifth to push the Warriors lead back up to one. One run for Fairleigh Dickinson in the fifth and two in the sixth gave the Knights their first lead of the afternoon. The Warriors got a run back in the top of the seventh after a solo home run from Ferrentino. One inning later, Christian Scanlon scored on a throwing error by the FDU catcher, tying the game at five. In the same inning, Scott Elliott doubled to center, scoring two and putting Merrimack up by a pair. Still in the eighth, Alex Haba singled to center, which scored a run and gave the Warriors a three-run advantage. The Knights would score four runs in the eighth and hold Merrimack in the ninth to win the game by a run.

Notes and Numbers
● Ferrentino finished the game going a perfect four-for-four at the plate with three RBI's.
● Golankiewicz finished the game with three hits.

Merrimack gets right back to action on Saturday against the Knights. First pitch is set for 1p.m.
