Baseball Defeated in Senior Day Doubleheader

North Andover, MA--  The Merrimack Baseball team came up short in both games of their senior day doubleheader against the Sacred Heart Pioneers by scores of 13-7 and 15-11 on Friday afternoon.
 
Game 1: In game one, Sacred Heart jumped out the early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning, before adding two more runs in the second and fourth inning.
The Warriors would get on the board with an 'impressive run of their own, scoring two runs in the fourth, as Stephen Santarpia had an RBI single and Ben Nelson would add the second on an error. In the fifth, Merrimack would add three more runs as they scored twice on bases loaded walk and a hit by pitch before the Warriors cut the lead to two as Christian Gemelli scored Braydon Dolbashian on an infield single.
 
Sacred Heart scored three more runs in the sixth, but the Warriors would get two of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning as Ben Nelson scored Scott Elliott on a sacrifice fly, and Matthew Chatelle had an RBI single, knocking in Alex Haba, cutting the score to 10-7.
 
The Pioneers would score three more runs in the eighth and ninth to close out game one.
 
 
 
Game 2: Game two started fast and furious as Sacred Heart would take the lead on a leadoff home run in the first inning, but Merrimack would take the lead in the bottom of the first as Michael Golankiewicz hit a lead off home run of his own, before Alex Haba would single scoring Scott Elliott and Frankie Ferrentino would score himself on a sacrifice fly.
 
Sacred Heart would re take the lead in the third inning, scoring four times. They would score two more runs in the fourth and fifth make the score 9-4.
 
The Warriors however, would fire themselves right back into the game, as Christian Gemelli hit an RBI double, before Christian Scanlon hit a two RBI single to cut the lead to two and Scott Elliott scored Scanlon to make it a one run game. In the sixth Braydon Dolbashian would tie the game at nine with a home run to dead center, and the game would stay tied entering the ninth inning.
 
Sacred Heart would take the lead in the top half of the inning, but Matthew Chatelle would tie the game again with a homerun, evening the game at ten a piece as the game entered extra innings.
 
Sacred Heart would take the lead on a bases loaded walk, and would hit a grand slam one batter later, stretching the lead to five. Michael Golankiewicz would hit his second home run as he lead off the bottom of the tenth but it would only be a consolation as the Pioneers took the series.
