Amherst, M.A.—The Merrimack Warriors Men's Hockey team were undone by the University of Massachusetts Minutemen in their return to Hockey East play by a score of 4-3 on Friday night at the Mullins Center.
The Basics
Merrimack (9-10-1, 2-7-1): 3, UMass (12-5-3, 5-3-2): 4
UMass scored the only goal of the first period at the 14:20 mark. The Warriors responded as Matt Copponi tied the game only 55 seconds into the second scoring on a wraparound that stood after a review.
UMass scored twice more to stretch the lead to 3-1, but it would be Ben Brar scoring his second powerplay goal in as many games to cut the lead to one.
In the third period, the Minutemen were able to reestablish their two goal lead, and despite a goal from Alex Jefferies, the Warriors would fall short in their attempted comeback.
