Corbett’s Career Afternoon Catapults Football to Victory Over Stonehill

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College football team took down Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon 48-28. Senior running back and Skyhawk transfer, Jermaine Corbett ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the victory against his former team.

How It Happened
  • On the opening offensive drive for the Warriors, Lliam Davis knocked down a 26-yard field goal to put Merrimack up by three. After a stop on defense, the Warriors took back over on offense. On the fourth play of the drive, Ayden Pereira uncorked a 51-yard bomb to Jalen McDonald the first touchdown of the game. Later in the first, Merrimack quickly marched down the field. Corbett found the end zone for the fist time of the afternoon to put the Warriors up three scores. In their first offensive possession of the second quarter, Merrimack had a methodical 14-play drive that ended with another Corbett touchdown. The Warriors found themselves up 24 halfway through the second stanza.  Towards the end of the second quarter Davis would hit a 53-yard field goal which would break his pervious high of 50 which was set just las week. Merrimack headed into the locker rooms up 27.
  • The Skyhawks found the end zone for the first time of the afternoon during their first possession of the second quarter. Stonehill would score again the next time they got the ball to put the deficit down to 13. After a great kick return from Corbett it took just two plays for Brendon Wyatt to find the end zone. The Skyhawks answered with a touchdown of their own to get it back down to 13. In the fourth, Pereira would find Seth Sweitzer on a nine-yard pass and catch to put the Warriors up 20. Late in the fourth quarter, the Stonehill quarterback ran the ball in from four yards. With just over two minutes left in the game Malakai Anthony ran the ball 42-yards to the house, giving the Warriors a 20-point victory.
Notes & Numbers
  • Josh Addo led the team in tackles with seven on the afternoon, including one for a loss.
  • Nate Palanica Jr. and Grant Jackson both had interceptions for the Warriors. The pick for Jackson was his second of the season.
  • Wyatt finished the game with a career-high 101 rushing yards.
Up next
The Warriors stay at home for their penultimate home game of the season against Colgate University. Kick off is set for noon.
