Men's Basketball Falls to Princeton Sunday

North Andover, Mass. –  The Merrimack College men's basketball team lost a matchup with Princeton University on Sunday afternoon 68-57. Adam "Budd" Clark had a game-high 24 points in the loss. He also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

  • One minute into the game, the Tigers got the scoring going with a layup. Bryan Etumnu answered with a layup of his own to tie the game at two. Princeton then went on a six-point run to go up two possessions. Matt Becht hit a three to get the lead down to three. The Warriors then went on a six-point run of their own to take a three-point advantage. With a little under 11 minutes left in the first half the score was tied at 13. Tye Dorset proceeded to knock down two threes. Clark added a jumper to give Merrimack an eight-point lead. The Tigers stopped the run with a jumper. Sean Trumper hit a three to put the Warriors up by nine. With six and a half minutes to play in the game, Becht hit a three to put Merrimack up by 14. Princeton battled back to tie the game at 33. Clark hit a jumper in the final seconds of the half to send the Warriors into halftime up by two.
  • In their first offensive possession of the second half, the Tigers tied the game at 35. Tumper drove the lane for two, putting Merrimack back up. Princeton then went on an eight-point run to go up six. Becht hit a three to stop the run and make it a one possession game. The Tigers answered back with a three to go back up six. With 12 minutes to go in the game, Clark hit a jumper to cut the lead down to four. Princeton scored four straight points to go up by eight with seven minutes to play. With three minutes to play the Tigers hit a jumper to increase their advantage to 14 points. The Warriors battled back, but could only get the deficit to as low as nine. Merrimack would lose the game by 11.   
     
Notes and Numbers
  • Trumper and Becht finished the game with nine points each. Trumper added seven rebounds.
  • Merrimack forced 14 turnovers in the loss, scoring 13 points off giveaways.
  • Malik Edmead scored three points in six minutes in his first action of the season.
