The calling card for this Merrimack team has been their defense up to this point in the year. However, in this one it would be the offense that carried the load. Both teams we're on fire from the field to start the game as Merrimack took a six-point lead after the first quarter scoring 20 points in the frame. In the second quarter the Warriors added to their lead going up by as much as 13 before the Highlanders we're able to cut it down to just six. After the mini run from NJIT, the Warriors would respond with numerous scores and ending the half on a buzzer beating
Mia Fiore jumper to go up by double digits once again, 48-35. In the third quarter, Merrimack would continue their punishment of NJIT going up by as many as 23 points capped off by a
Paloma Garcia three ball that would force a Highlander timeout. NJIT would cut into the large lead but the Warriors still held the upper hand going into the fourth. In the final frame, Merrimack was able to respond to the bursts from NJIT throughout the quarter. Ultimately, it was the passing, 17 assists, and bench productivity, 25 points, that would be the difference in the 87-76 victory.
Notes and Numbers
- Mia Fiore finished with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead the way
- Paloma Garcia continued her surge with a 19-point outing
- Cadence Johnson was perfect from the field scoring a season high 11 points off the bench
