Rapid Recap
Merrimack was aiming to spoil the Quakers home opener in The Palestra. Early on, Merrimack's defense was on fire creating numerous turnovers and giving Penn no breathing room. It would be
Madison Roman going to work in the paint scoring the first two baskets for the Warriors. The two teams would go on to trade points as Penn escaped the first quarter with a one score advantage. Merrimack's defense would continue to stifle the home team's offense causing turnover after turnover to keep them right in the contest. The Warriors would be behind by two possessions at the half behind some great individual and team defense. In the third quarter, when the Quakers looked like they might be able to pull away it was the Warriors offense kicking it into high gear making tough shots to bring it to a one score game.
Kelly Morrone's squad would keep it tight throughout the third quarter trailing by just eight heading into the final ten minutes of play. In the fourth it would be the
Thalia Shepard show as she poured in six points on two three pointers. However, Shepard's nineteen points we're not enough to keep up with the Quakers in the twelve-point loss.
