Men's Basketball Drops Close Matchup At Stanford

Stanford, Calif. –  The Merrimack College men's basketball team lost its first of two games in California on Tuesday night to Stanford University 74-68. Adam "Budd" Clark led all scorers with a career-high 32 points.

Rapid Recap
  • The Cardinal opened the game on a five-point run. Bryan Etumnu hit a three to stop the run. Clark then added a jumper to tie the game at five. Stanford answered with five-points to go back up five. Clark hit a three to cut the lead back down to two. The Cardinal then scored nine-points to go up by 11. Malik Edmead drove the lane for two points dropping the lead to nine. Both teams battled back and forth. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, Stanford was up by 16. The Cardinal added another three to go up 19. The Warriors answered with five points to get the lead down to 14 with six minutes to play in the first. A Clark jumper as time expired sent Merrimack into the locker room down by nine points.
  • Matt Becht and Clark started the second half on a five-point run to make it a four-point game. Three minutes into the half the Cardinal went up nine. Clark and Becht then went on another five-point run to get the lead back down to four. With 10 minutes to play Stanford went up by 10. Clark stopped the run with a jumper. Both teams battled back and forth with a number of successful offensive possessions. An and one from Clark with five minutes left in the game got the deficit to nine. Clark added another jumper on the next Warrior possession to cut it to seven. Good free throw shooting down the stretch for the Cardinal gave Stanford a six-point win.  
Notes and Numbers
  • In addition to his career-high in points, Clark also had six rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
  • Becht was the only other Warrior in double figures with 12 points.
  • Etumnu finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
